The Ice Has Melted. The World Cup Is Next.

Milano Cortina delivered. The 2026 Winter Olympics wrapped up on February 22 with 16 days of incredible competition, and American athletes put on a show for the ages.

The United States brought home a record-breaking 12 gold medals — the most ever for the U.S. at a Winter Games — and 33 medals overall, the country's best Winter Olympics performance in 76 years.

A Golden Games

A few moments worth celebrating:

Mikaela Shiffrin reminded the world she is still the queen of the slalom, winning gold in the women's event and adding to one of the greatest alpine skiing careers in history.

Jordan Stolz was a force in speed skating, taking home two gold medals and establishing himself as the sport's next superstar.

Breezy Johnson won the women's downhill by four-hundredths of a second — the kind of margin that makes the Olympics unforgettable.

Elana Meyers Taylor added monobob gold to a bobsled career that already ranks among the best of all time.

And then there was the hockey. Both the U.S. men's and women's teams won gold. The men's team beat Canada in overtime for their first Olympic hockey gold since the Miracle on Ice in 1980. If that does not give you chills, nothing will.

Congratulations to every athlete who competed. The Winter Olympics reminded us what sports do best — bring people together around something bigger than themselves.

Now It Is Our Turn

The snow is melting. Summer is loading. And the biggest sporting event on the planet is headed to our backyard.

World Cup 2026 kicks off in June with eight matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta — just two hours from Chattanooga. Countries from around the world. Millions of fans. And a city that already has a Spanish national team training in its backyard.

This is not a drill.

Chattanooga, Where Are We Watching?

We are building the ultimate watch party plan for every match, and we need your input. The Community Pulse already has data from fans across the city, and the picture is coming together:

  • 71% want outdoor viewing
  • Breweries and sports bars are the top venue picks
  • Neighborhoods like Downtown, Southside, and Northshore are leading the vote

But we need more voices. Your vote shapes where the watch parties happen, what the vibe looks like, and how Chattanooga shows up for the World Cup.
